The theme for the 2014 International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) is 'Freedom of Expression.' 

The 519 Anti-Violence Program will be hosting a community art event to mark this years' IDAHOT.

There have always been Gender Independent Kids – kids who march to a different beat when it comes to gender. Yet in recent years, we are witnessing a profound shift in how these kids are seen and treated, especially by health and mental health professionals. Pathologized for decades through the diagnosis of “gender identity disorder in children”, a new generation of young people are re-writing the rules of gender. A new generation of parents and professionals are following their lead.

Rainbow Refugee is an organization founded in 2000, Rainbow Refugee Committee (RRC) is a Vancouver based community group that supports and advocates with people seeking refugee protection because of persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. Rainbow Refugee Committee engages in outreach, advocacy and public education on QLGBT/HIV+ refugee issues. RRC is member driven and all volunteer.
